Four-day Magnificent Glacier and Romantic Kangding City Tour

Suggested Itinerary:

Day1Leave Chengdu for Moxi Town, and Pay a visit to Ya’an Panda Base

Moxi Town is situated in Luding County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, around 280 km(174 miles) away from downtown Chengdu. It is the place where the glacier lies. On the way to Moxi Town, you will pay a visit to Ya’an Panda Base. The panda base is a part of Bifeng Valley Scenic Area. It is located about 150 km(93 miles) to the southwest of Chengdu. It takes approximately two hours to get to the panda base from Chengdu. So, we suggest you leave you hotel for your trip at 8 o’clock in the morning. Your guide and driver will pick you up at the lobby of your hotel. You may spend two hours for your tour inside the panda base.
After lunch, you will ride your car to Moxi Ancient Town. The distance between the restaurant in Ya’an and the town is about 150 km(93 miles), taking around three hours by a car. When you arrive at the town, you may go to its old street for a walk.
You will spent two nights in the same hotel.
Day2Tour in Hailuogou National Glacier and Forest Park

In the morning, you will set off for your tour in Hailuogou Park at 8:00 A.M., then you will take a sightseeing shuttle bus to the Camping Site No.3. It is 26 km(16 miles) away from the entrance, taking around one hour by bus. At the Camping Site No.3, you will take cable car to the Camping Site No.4. It is the place where you can overview the glacier and get a close look of the Minya Konka Summit. After lunch in a restaurant nearby the Camp No.3, you may go to visit the Arch-gate-like Ice Path, the Moon Lake and Caohaizi Wetland. You may get back to your hotel at around five. After dinner, you may enjoy the hot spring in your hotel. If you want to take a bath in the hot spring, you can tell us to arrange it for you or directly tell your guide to help you to book on your arrival.
Day3Drive to Kangding and Pay a Visit to Mugecuo Lake

You may set off for Kangding at 8:30 in the morning. It is 76 km(47 miles) away from Hailuogou Glacier, taking around two and a half hours by a car. We highly suggest you to have an early but simple lunch in Kangding City. After lunch, you will ride your car the Mugecuo Lake Scenic Area. It takes about forty minutes to get to the entrance of the scenic area from the city by car. You will take a sightseeing shuttle bus to Mugecuo Lake which lies on the top of the valley. It takes about 40 minutes to get to the lake from the entrance by bus. You may wander around the lake, taking photos. Then, you may walk along a path to visit the Azalea Valley and Yaochi Hot Spring. There are two lakes in the scenic area. Qise Multi-colored Lake is the highlight of the whole scenic area. You may arrive at the latter one at 4:00 P.M. or 4:30 P.M. You can stay at the lake until the Golden Hour. The scenic area shuts at 6:30 in summer and autumn. After dinner in Kangding, you may also wander around the city. The night view is gorgeous.
Day4Drive back to Chengdu

In the morning, you may leave your hotel in Kangding for Chengdu at 9:00 A.M.. It takes about 4 hours to get back to Chengdu from Kangding by a car. When you arrive at Chengdu, you may go to visit Jinli Street and the famous Chunxi Road, looking for souvenirs. Then, your guide and driver will escort you back to your hotel in Chengdu.

Activities Recommended for Enriching Your Tour

Are you still wondering how you could kill time before going to bed? We have listed two highly recommended activities below for your preference. If you are interested in our recommendations, just feel free to contact us to add it.

Face-changing Show(one and a half hours)

Face-changing refers to the painted masks Changing. It is a significant cultural heritage of China, is the highlight of Sichuan folk art, as well as a national secret. Only few masters have grasped the skill. Only they know how to change their masks in a magically quick succession. Many tourists exclaimed that the face-changing was extremely amazing.

Cooking Sichuan Dishes(three to five hours)

To eat in China, taste in Sichuan, as a popular saying goes. In fact, you can also easily try to cook Sichuan dishes in Chengdu. Sichuan Cuisine Museum is located in Pidu District, Chengdu. It takes only one hour to get to the museum by driving from your hotel. The trip to Sichuan Cuisine Museum offers you a chance to cook the world famous Sichuan Dishes, such as Kungpao Chicken and Mapo Tofu. No doubt, English speaking cooks will show you how to cook Sichuan dishes.

Tips for Your Trip

1. The altitude in both Hailuogou Glacier Park and Mugecuo Park is quite high. The highest point you may reach is almost 3,800 meters(12,467 feet) above sea level. Sometimes, people may suffer from Altitude Sickness, when they travel on a high plateau. Click here to learn more about the Altitude Sickness.

2. The average temperature in the west part of Sichuan is much lower than in Chengdu. Even you make your tour in summer, you still need to pack some thin down jackets for your tour.

Photography Tips:

A tripod, a filter, telephoto lenses and wide angle lenses are needed. The Camp No.4 in Hailuogou Glacier Park is the most ideal place for visitors to take photos of Minya Konka and the Grand Frozen Waterfall. But, it is quite foggy sometimes. We highly recommend you get to the Camp No.4 as early as possible. In Mugecuo Lake Scenic Area, the Qise Multi-colored Lake is the most ideal places for a view of reflection. The best time to get to the lake is after 4:00 P.M., because the lake usually ripples from 9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. in sunny days. The Golden Hour usually arrives at 6:00 P.M.
