Covering an area of 300 hectares(741 acres), the Rainbow Beach lies by the Irtysh River, Burqin County, Northern Xinjiang. It is called Wu-Cai-Tan by locals, meaning “multi-colored beach” in English. However, it is not a beach, but a riverside or a bank. The scenic area is notable for the unique Chinese Yardang landform, a special landform in the Gobi Desert of China. As a result of erosion, many gullies have been sculpted on the surface of rock strata by both wind and water. The gullies vary in color and in depth. The landscape of the Rainbow Beach is amazingly gorgeous.

How to Get to the Rainbow Beach
The Rainbow Beach Scenic Area is located 24 kilometers(15 miles) to the north of the county seat of Burqin. The distance between the Rainbow Beach and the world’s famous Kanas Lake is about 120 kilometers(75 miles). Burqin is a county of Altai Prefecture, Northern Xinjiang. It is situated some 600 kilometers(373 miles) to the north of Urumqi.
Urumqi is the capital city and aviation hub of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Urumqi Diwopu International Airport is located 17 kilometers(11 miles) to the center of the city. Tourist can fly to Urumqi from most of major cities in Mainland China, such as Beijing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Photography Tips:
A tripod, a filter, telephoto lenses and wide angle lenses are needed. It is recommended to go to visit the Rainbow Beach before the sunset so that you may make good shots.
