    Pengzhen Old Tea House is located at Pengzhen Town. It is also called Guanyinge Old Tea House. According to the historical records, the tea house was built almost 200 years ago. It used to be a Buddhist monastery. Guanyinge means the shrine of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. Around 150 years ago, the town was damaged by a conflagration. Only the monastery survived. In 1920s, it was turned into a tea house. Local people go to the tea house in the early morning, and leave in the afternoon. They sit on chairs drinking tea, chatting and playing cards. Don’t they work? Most of them are retired. The owner is Li Qiang. He has run his tea house for over twenty years. The tea house opens at five o’clock every morning. The owner only serves his customers jasmine tea.

    Nowadays, Pengzhen Old Tea House attracts many portrait photographers all over the world. It shows people’s authentic daily life in countryside and the traditional folk architecture in Sichuan Province. The tea house also reminds people the stories happened in 1960s with its unique decoration. It has been added to the list of historical relic sites under protection the local government of Chengdu.

    How to Get to Pengzhen Old Tea House

    The tea house is situated at Pengzhen Town. The town lies in the southwest of Chengdu. The distance between the tea house and downtown Chengdu is about 30 km(19 miles). It takes around 40 minutes to get to the tea house from the downtown by a car.

 

    Photography Tips:

    The tea house is open at five o’clock in the morning. Photographers usually rush to the tea house after 9:00 A.M.. We highly suggest our clients to leave their hotels for the tea house before the sunrise so that they can shoot during the golden hour. The magic hour creates magical photographs. Photographers know how to make different photographs with different apertures.
